We offer support, advice and information to survivors of brain injury/stroke

Story

Hi everyone!

On 28th November 2018 my Mum suffered from a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage. She was in hospital for 8 weeks and it was a horrible time for my family. Mums recovery has been a long and ongoing process but she is doing amazing an I am so proud of her.

During her time in hospital we were faced with the statistics that she had a less than 10% chance of survival and of that 10%, a 60% chance of physical or mental disability.

  • 9 years on from an SAH, more than a quarter of people that suffer from SAH develop some degree of Hypopituitarism.
  • 26% of sufferers have stopped working all together with 24% reducing their work commitments.
  • On average, people returned to work 9.4 months after discharge.
  • 59% of sufferers experienced changes in personality with increased irritability and emotionality being the most common.
  • Patients with SAH have a statistically significant higher mean depression score that a control population.
  • Only 25% of survivors report a complete recovery without any mental or physical disabilities.

If you know me, you know I suck at running!! That’s why I’m doing this challenge, if my mum can get through this, I can run and walk a few miles everyday.

Please donate what you can ❤️
