We provide information and peer support to help women and families affected by PP

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Shortly after the birth of our first child nine years ago, my wife suffered an episode of postpartum psychosis.

Postpartum psychosis (PP) is a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby. It can happen ‘out of the blue’ to women without previous experience of mental illness.

It hit us a few days into parenthood, following a week of zero sleep. The most terrifying thing that night when we called an ambulance was the realisation that in addition to me and our family not understanding what was happening, neither did any of the medical staff or paramedics on call that Sunday.

Jo was transferred to a mother and baby unit the following day and received great care as part of her recovery.

Action on Postpartum Psychosis provides support for women and families that have experienced PP and strives to raise awareness of the illness. They also create networks to connect those with lived experience and campaign for better services.

APP has been a reliable touchstone for information and community in the years since. They are a small charity so every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference and helps them carry on their good work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
