Story
Whilst running his 4Marathons4Eilish challenge in 2015, Steve met up with an old University pal, Doug, who was also running the Marathon in Edinburgh. Doug mentioned the Zermatt Marathon - an all up hill mountain marathon - in the shadow of the mighty Matterhorn and this insane idea was born.
Running in Memory of Steve's beautiful daughter Eilish who passed away in October 2014 from an aggressive form of Kidney Cancer, Steve and Doug are aiming to raise money for the Beads of Courage programme in the UK which gives encouragement and recognition of the tremendous bravery of Childhood Cancer Sufferers through coloured glass beads. A picture of Eilish's beads is below, each bead represents a medical event, an act of bravery.
Yellows = overnight stays - Red = blood transfusions - Lime = fever or neutropenic - Blue = clinic visits and medications - White = Chemotherapy - Sparkly = Radiotherapy - Purple = infusion - Stars = surgeries - Magenta = Ambulance transfers - Light Green = scans. The list goes on - the bravery is immense.
This is no ordinary marathon, the profile as you will see shows that it is up a mountain, climbing 1469metres over the 26.2miles which is 56.5metres per mile... That's got to be worth a few £££ but remember that if you can't afford to donate money then please consider giving blood - 63% of which is used to fight and treat cancer.
Thanks for reading.
