Story
"The rainforest is a home, a habitat, a shelter, a pharmacy, a supermarket and an ecosystem that supports many lives and livelihoods. Rainforests cover just 6% of the Earth’s land surface, but are home to over 80% of known terrestrial species and tens of millions of indigenous people who rely on the forest every day. Yet most forest dependent people are unable to defend the lands on which they live from destruction, theft and resource exploitation." - The Rainforest Foundation UK website
London Marathon will be my fifth marathon of the six World Major Marathons. I am so grateful to partner with this remarkable charity to combine my love of running with their humanitarian and environmental efforts.
The Rainforest Foundation UK's mission is to:
- Ensure that the indigenous communities who have historically managed and protected these forests have secure and long term rights to their lands and resources.
- Challenge the activities and practices of governments or other entities which damage the environment and lands of the rainforest.
- Globally campaign to influence national and international laws to protect rainforests and their inhabitants
