Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) affects approx 10,000 people in the UK, majority are children, with no known cause or cure. The current treatment is non-specific and highly toxic, with many potentially life-threatening complications. NeST funds Bristol Children's Hospital in researching NS to find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have set up this page in support of my son Evan Batten and many other sufferers worldwide, who need a cause and cure to be found for this very unpredictable, rare kidney disease. Evan was born a healthy 8lb 9ozs on October 2nd 2005. On the whole he was a fit & well little boy but in 2009 was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome.

He was treated with steroids and was in remission for over a year, unfortunately that wasn't to last, in the last couple of years he has had many relapses and has now become steroid dependant. New medications are going to be attempted to try to minimise kidney damage and the use of too many steroids, but they all come with many possible side effects. Recent admitions to hospital have seen him gain upto 7.5 kg in fluid! We have tried Levamisole which hasn't helped, now trying another immunosuppressant Mychophenalate Mofetil (MMF) to try & come off steroids for a while. Amazingly Evan tries to take this all as his routine meaning taking medications up to 4 times a day. Help us to find a cure for Nephrotic Syndrome.

NeST is a very important charity which helps and supports sufferers, parents and carers. But mainly they are responsible for fundraising to help fund important research at Bristol Childrens Hospital to try and find out why this condition occurs and a much needed cure.
