Story

On the 10th September 2022 the brave (but slightly misguided and really quite unfit) Directors of TCi are embarking on a significant challenge:

To complete a full marathon distance along the cliffs of the South West Coast Path within the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere and North Devon AONB. The event aims to raise funds for TCi’s chosen charity, Care for Kids, which provides assistance to families of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or condition.

Please consider helping us to reach our target. We appreciate every single donation.

The team:

Alex Perkis

Jim Capron

Alex Slee

Chris Pyne

Callum Bowden

It's going to be tough!

The 42km (26.2 mile) marathon distance along the South West Coast Path consists mainly of rugged clifftop paths with steep climbs and eyewatering descents, so it’ll be far from a walk in the park.

Starting from one of TCi’s live sites in Ilfracombe, the team will join the Coast Path as it heads out towards Lee Bay, then on around Morte Point, around Woolacombe bay and Baggy Point, across Croyde Beach, over Braunton Burrows and then into Barnstaple on the Tarka Trail. The route incorporates more than 900m climbing (3000ft) and another 900m of treacherous downhill, with mainly rock, gravel, scree and sand underfoot. The unpredictable coastal weather will also play its hand in defining the challenges, with potential for extreme heat, rain, wind and even thick fog on the list of possibilities.

About the charity

We help families of children who have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness or condition. Our instant grants help pay for travel to medical appointments outside the area. We also carry out improvements to the Caroline Thorpe Children's Ward at North Devon District Hospital.
