Story

Every year, the Thomson Reuters Foundation launches a global competition open to all full-time employees of Thomson Reuters with the goal of finding one individual to act as its Ambassador both within and outside the company. The challenge offers a unique opportunity for members of the Thomson Reuters community to raise awareness of the Foundation, as well as fundraise for the scholarship program to its flagship annual event, the Trust Conference, formerly Trust Women, which is the world’s leading forum in the fight against slavery and trafficking. This program enables individuals who fight slavery and defend human rights across the world to attend the conference in London.

I have been selected as one of 12 shortlisted ambassadors from over 150 submissions from around the world in 2017. I have time until October 5, 2017 to plan and implement awareness and fundraising activities and I hope I can count on your support!

The Thomson Reuters Foundation:

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Thomson Reuters and an independently registered charity in the UK and the USA. It leverages the know-how, reach and reputation of Thomson Reuters to run free programmes that promote the highest standards in journalism and spread excellence in the practice of legal pro bono worldwide: free legal assistance to NGOs and social enterprises, coverage of the world’s under-reported news, media development, and the annual Trust Conference. It acts as a source of unbiased thought leadership in areas including slavery and human trafficking, women’s rights and climate and resilience.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation has helped develop four Core Programmes to offer solutions to Modern slavery and Human Trafficking:

1) Media Development: which the foundation have put 15,100 journalists into journalism courses, training in 7 languages across the world. They have also hosted courses and created 4 new news platforms set up in Iraq, Egypt, Zimbabwe and Myanmar.

2) Trust Conference where the foundation bring together 600 delegates through corporations to address female entrepreneurship, modern slavery and breaking taboos with deradicalization.

3) Trust Law which is a global network including 700 law firms, 4000 members and 175 countries which have brought together 100,000 legal experts to offer $85 million pro bono hours to work on slavery and human trafficking.

4) Under reported News: The foundation uses its platform of Reuters News by dedicating daily coverage of slavery and human trafficking around the world
