Story
Team Bliss rides another day. In May, the team of 4 heads to Morocco and will ride over 2,000 miles from Tangiers, to South Morocco, across the Atlas Mountains, deserts and back. We’ll be riding by day – often in +35°C heat – and sleeping out in the desert at night. It’s an adventure and a tough challenge, but one thing that keeps us going is knowing that we’re raising money for a fantastic cause.
We’re riding for the charity Bliss, which helps babies born sick or too soon, as well as supporting their families. Chris’s son – Alfred – was born premature and hospitalised with severe jaundice for a week, that was traumatic enough but it doesn't compare to Ben's story: his daughter – Nancy – was born at just 26 weeks, weighing a little over 700 grams (1.5 lbs) and spent almost six months in hospital. Bliss offered support and information at a crucial and worrying time. We’re lucky, our children are now fit and healthy, and we want to do our best to help other families and children going through a terrifying ordeal by raising what we can for Bliss.
We’ve had to get fitter to prepare for this challenge – the team has lost weight, hit the gym, stopped drinking and taken on half marathons to ensure we’re able to cope with digging bikes out of the sand in the desert heat. We’re still not prepared for the scorpions or snakes we might encounter.
For the bike fans: As with the ride across the UK in 2017, we’ll again be on ‘inappropriate’ bikes. We’re not using comfortable tourers, off-road or enduro bikes. We’ll be on a CCM Scrambler, a Ducati Desert Sled, a Kawasaki W650, and a Triumph Bonneville. We had one team bike stolen and
another that broke on the way back from Holland.
We're very grateful for all the support you can lend us and Bliss.
