Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. As a Family, we are committing to walk 78.6 miles in March (3 marathons) to help raise awareness and funds for PSDS, a charity that is very close to our hearts. PSDS (Providing Support for Children with Down's Syndrome and their families) is a small, registered charity whose principal goal is to provide support for Children with Down's Syndrome and their families.

As many of you may know, our wonderful daughter Thea happens to her Down's Syndrome and PSDS have provided invaluable support to us over the last 2.5yrs and will play a key role in her life for many years to come. As well as regular family meet-ups to share experiences and provide a network of support, friendship, advice and expertise. PSDS also provide a wide range of professional services to children with Down's Syndrome, such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy through their pre school developmental group Digbies. As well as after school activities and clubs, educational programmes and much more. Their aim is for all children with DS to have access to the opportunities available to others and for there to be no ceiling on what any of our children might achieve.

World Down Syndrome day falls on 21st March (to represent 3 copies of the 21st chromosome). As with many other charities PSDS have, one the last year, had to postpone or cancel many of it's fund raising activities due to the pandemic. However, PSDS have been exceptional in going the extra mile (ha!) to ensure that they have been able to provide as many of their services as possible, albeit at times virtually from home. At the start of lockdown one, Thea, at the grand age of 2 very quickly became a zoom master and has fully embraced online therapy...she has also learnt to say bye and walk away halfway through some sessions but let's not dwell on that!

Having started walking in the summer of 2020, after putting in a lot of ground work, this challenge will be extra special for Thea as she'll be putting those little (and fast) legs to good use. No doubt she'll only be in it for the biscuits. As always, we really appreciate any support, be it by donating or spreading awareness. Maybe next time Thea will be able to join us on the 'Three Peaks Challenge: take 2'...!

PS. We're allowing the kids to scoot, cycle, run, hop, skip, jump...shoulder rides and pushchair assistance. Maybe James will give Lenise a shoulder ride or two too...
