Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

Just like for the past couple of years, once again PhD students from both Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen are organising a “Tenovus Scotland Walk”. The location of the previous events has always been Loch Morlich in the middle of the Cairngorm national park. In contrast with the previous events, this year the location for the fundraising walk will be in Aberdeen. The walk will be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to explore the natural landscapes hidden within the city outskirts. The objective of this fundraising event will be the one of raising awareness as well as money to be devolved in support of the medical research throughout Scotland and in the Grampian region in particular.

Tenovus Scotland is a small charity body supporting medical research within universities and teaching hospitals. Additionally, Tenovus Scotland supports early career researchers with small grants. The supported research activities cover a wide range of therapeutic areas such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, gastroenterology and neurodegenerative disorders. More information can be found at the following link:

We are three PhD students funded by Tenovus Scotland carrying out research in many different areas. Vasiliki is looking at fatty molecules present in breast cancer that can be used as diagnostic markers. Elena is studying the interactions between the gut microbiota and diet. Franziska is researching the potential use of rapeseed pomace (from locally grown rape seed) for the treatment or prevention of neurodegenerative disease. This year Matteo is also joining the fundraising events. He is a former Tenovus PhD student who is now a young researcher at the University of Aberdeen.

We all would like to invite everyone to join the fundraising walk starting in Duthie Park and continuing along the river Dee on the 8th September to help raise money and awareness about Tenovus Scotland. More information about the walk path can be found by clicking at the following link:

Any donations would make a big difference for today’s research and tomorrow’s health. During the previous fundraising activities we raised a total amount of £ 1838.85, which were devolved entirely to the Grampian division of Tenovus Scotland. We hope to raise at least an equal amount this year, to support further medical research in the region. Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page.
