Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My motivation for running for the BDA follows me watching my sons struggels. People think that dislexia effects classroom performance but it is so much more than that.

He had at the age of 10 disengaged with learning and anxiety was effecting school, friendships and his social life. At the point he was reffered to mental health enough was enough. Since that point I have fought harder that I ever should of, to get teachers to listen, my son to feel worth something and make the transition to secondary school a positive one. For the sake of a few hundred pounds we have a plan! An assessment that not only documents he struggels it also gives me and his teachers simple ways to help him everyday. We all understand how to help him make education a more level playing field.

He will always confuse numbers, places, times and dates. He will always have difficulties planning and writing essays. He will struggle to process complex language. He will be disorganised and messy. Communication and developing relationships will not be easy. Imagine living everyday as if you are in a foreign country and having to decode you own language.

The assessment for dislexic is not avaliable in school. Its not provided by the NHS. Parents have to pay. Each miles will be worth it if it helps another child understand themselves.
