Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I'm Thomas and I'm travelling basically every weekend to some beautiful places in Europe. Sometimes they're more far away and sometimes they're pretty close to my hometown.

"It's hard to stay mad when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much. My heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst. And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain, and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life" - Lester in American Beauty

The quote above shows exactly how I feel about life. I'm in love with the beautiful world. There are so many beautiful places around the world and it would be a shame if some people wouldn't have the chance to see them. Beauty is everywhere. You just have to open your eyes and search for beauty, and you'll eventually find it nearby. Just look at the details of a flower in a garden. Climb a mountain and enjoy its magnificent view. Watch the sky and the sunset. Take a walk at night under the stars. There are so many beautiful things you can see.

But blind people don't have the opportunity to experience such a great moment. They aren't able to enjoy life as we do. So that's why I am trying to help National Eye Research Centre in the UK. They carry out research into the causes and treatment of diseases and disabilities of the eye and the prevention of blindness. Only 2% of the medical research funding goes to the eye research, which is in my opinion way too less. Blindness may not be deadly, like cancer, but it affects the quality of life by a lot. I don't feel like donating to an eye hospital, because it would only affect a small amount of people. With that money some people there could be helped. However with a cure for a eye disease you can help thousands of people from all over the world. So I think with donating to the National Eye Research Centre we will be able to help many people.

But how would I reach my goal? With travelling and my monocle.

But before I make that clear, let me tell you something about me and my monocle. I started wearing a monocle in October 2015. At first, it was just a nice gag and It was a nice way to make people laugh. I had much fun with it and I got the attention of many people with it. But then, in February 2016 I also thought of helping humanity with it. Now back to the upper question about how I would reach my goal.

By traveling every weekend I am able to meet many people from all around the world and to share my story and my goals.

By wearing a monocle, I look ridiculous. Yea...

But because of that, they start talking to me everywhere and ask me questions like "Why are you doing this?!". I get so much attention. And that's where I am able to tell them about this fundraising page. So the monocle helps me to spread my idea even more.

At cost of looking ridiculous, I am able to help humanity with one of my biggest hobbies. Travelling, whilst meeting funny, fantastic people. And that's awesome!

Thank you for reading my story. It would be really great  if you'd donate some money. Every amount of money helps. It's fine if you don't want to donate some money. I already appreciate the fact, that you visited my page and read my story.

Thank you. You're awesome.
