Story
I first learned about Sparkle Malawi through my daughter Siarra's involvement with this charitable organisation through our school. Siarra is part of a school group that initiated an annual Knit-a-Thon to make blankets for the Sparkle children. Over the past 5 years the group has created dozens of blankets to keep the Sparkle children warm and protected from malaria.
I have been inspired by Siarra's selfless action and I want to help in my own way. If participating in this race can help raise awareness and funds for such a worthy and deserving cause it will be a much more meaningful event.
Malawi is one of the world’s least developed countries where a significant portion of the population lives below the poverty line with serious consequences for children and women.
Sparkle Malawi provides education, nutritional support, medical treatment, entrepreneurship, love and care to hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children in 17 communities in Zomba, Malawi. Since Sparkle began in 2012, more than 800 children have been educated, 4700 medical cases have been treated and 66 000 meals have been served.
Due to COVID-19 and government restrictions Sparkle has had to close its premises. This means they have to take food to their children if they are to survive this difficult time.
For just £15 ($20/17 Euro/18 chf) YOU can provide a Sparkle child with food for the month. The Sparkle Care Package contains maize, sugar, salt, oil, soya, beans and soap. My goal is to try to help 100 Sparkle children.
Every child deserves to sparkle. Please help me to help Sparkle continue to make a difference and change lives.
Everyone is going through a difficult time right now but for countries like Malawi, lockdown is catastrophic and we can all do a small amount to keep as many children alive as possible during this time.
