Story
We are Tijmen and Daniek, children of our loving father Jeroen Nanninga. Our father was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a malignant plasma cell cancer. Multiple Myeloma affects multiple places in the body where bone marrow is active, causing low blood counts, poor bone growth and increased risk of infection (where abnormal plasma cells can no longer protect the body against infection), amongst other possible risks. Around 114,000 new people are diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma each year.
Today, there is no cure for Multiple Myeloma. However, each year new crucial research is performed, extending the life expectancy of our father, and other sufferers like him. In the past ten years alone, the life expectancy of those diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma has increased severalfold. This points to the fundamental role that this research has played, in developing better and safer treatment for the cancer. With your donation, we can perhaps find the cure in our father's lifetime, and truly make Multiple Myeloma history.
To help raise funds, we will be participating in marathon events. Daniek will run the Utrecht half marathon on 19 March 2017, and Tijmen will run the Edinburgh marathon on 28 May 2017.
