We visited Malawi last year and saw how deforestation is degrading the land and threatening livelihoods but also how villagers given a little support can reverse the process.

Blantyre is the second city of Malawi and is named after the home village of David Livingstone that is now part of Glasgow, an appropriate destination we thought! David Livingstone the 19th century explorer and missionary was instrumental in stopping slavery in Malawi.
