Story
On 29th July myself and Stuart Robinson (Friend / Fellow Nurse from College days) will be undertaking the Prudential Ride London Sportive to raise funds for the Space Centre - Preston. This ride is a 100 mile loop which leaves Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, heading into the Surrey hills, including Box Hill, and finishing on the Mall in London.
On of our aims is to complete the ride in a respectable time (6-7 HRS) but the main one is to raise as much as ewe can for SPACE PRESTON. The reason why space has been chosen is due to Stuarts close links with the charity as they provide support for his daughter and family. A small testimonial of Emily follow below, outlining what she and her family gain from space.
Emily has Lissencephaly. She has the development of approximately a three month old, and has severe epilepsy. She needs help with everything but she loves to look around at the lights and loves the feeling of the bubble tubes and texture wall. It's wonderful for her to leave the confines of her wheelchair and relax on the waterbed, or enjoy the massage bed, or for loads of fun take a few trips down the slide. It's a great place to bring family as its one of the few places she can be on a similar level to her bother and sister. They can pay together in the ball pool, or enjoy the movement of the waterbed. They love looking at each other in the mirrors, and playing with the different lightings. Stuart and Jane don't know how long they have left with Emily as her condition is significantly life limiting. They're delighted that the can access a place like SPACE with the versatility and opportunities it presents.
Many thanks in advance for your donations. We will let you know how we get on. The more we can raise the greater the funds the charity can get to ensure it keeps up its mission of "Providing a place where those with physical, learning or emotional difficulties may more easily acquire skills and enjoy experiences usually denied them."
