We provide a safe haven, food & friendship to homeless & vulnerable people in the NE

Story

On September 12, I'm running the Great North Run. A year and a half ago I'd never run more than a bath, so getting around the course will be an achievement. So, to recognise this progression from zero to 13.1 miles, please send some money to this amazing charity.

The People's Kitchen has been helping support homeless and vulnerable people in and around Newcastle since 1984. Throughout the pandemic it has been open, providing hot takeaway meals seven days a week, and giving a vital lifeline to people who might be at risk of homelessness, unemployed, lonely or living in poverty. For people who experience these difficulties, this place is a light in the dark.

I have been privileged to volunteer with the Kitchen since the start of this year. Each Wednesday night is the highlight of my week. The positivity and open-mindedness of the team of volunteers, and the incredible resilience in the face of unfathomable adversity shown by some of our Friends, is truly inspiring.

By helping this amazing charity you are helping the people in our community who most need our support. In recent weeks we've served upwards of 250 hot meals a night. There's sadly no sign of demand decreasing any any time soon, so anything you can give will make a real difference.

Thank you! 😊

About the charity

We are a non judgemental charity. We serve 250-300 hot meals a day, 365 days a year. We also provide clothing and bathroom facilities. We are 100% volunteer led & we receive no government funding. We rely on the generosity of the public to be able to support those less fortunate than ourselves.
