Event: London Marathon 2021, on 3 October 2021
We fund services for local asylum seekers to relieve poverty and distress

Story

On 3 October 2021 I will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for a local charity - The Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS).

SDCAS is a small charity based in South London which provides assistance, food, care and advocacy to Asylum Seekers and Refugees in need of help. SDCAS aims to provide a wide range of holistic services which support, promote and secure the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in the London Borough of Southwark.

By running the London Marathon I aim to raise, at least, £1500 which will significantly contribute to the provision of SDCAS’s services, including:

  • Specialist staff to support mental health needs and run drop-in group therapy sessions for men and women;
  • Provide a programme of parenting courses available in a range of languages;
  • Creche facilities for clients requiring childcare;
  • Provide hot lunches and a safe space where clients can socialise;
  • Provision of English classes;
  • Advice and advocacy services for issues relating to health, housing, employment and immigration issues.
  • Advice to parents and families about parenting and access to school education;
  • Outreach workers from the Guy's & St Thomas's Health Inclusion Team visit SDAS centres to provide healthcare advice;
  • Organising social events at the day centres and social and cultural outings for clients to places of interest in the local area;
