A team of zoo people will be trekking up Everest in aid of conservation.

This fundraising mission will be close to my heart. Our male tiger, Rana, has reached the end of his years. When I first had the honour of working with tigers (specifically Rana) back in 2001, I was given the inspiration to want to do all I could to help the plight of tigers in the wild. In those days, numbers of around 10,000 tigers were still being talked about, now conservationists believe there are only around 4,000 left. 

To date, Shepreth Wildlife Park and SWCC  have raised over £56,000 to help save tigers throughout Asia, particularly in Sumatra. We want to keep this funding growing for these projects. I have seen first-hand the atrocities which are happening in the jungle, both directly and indirectly to force the extinction of this iconic species, and therefore we choose to support and donate to Debbie Martyr and the Tiger Protection Conservation Unit, via 21st Century Tiger. This project is courageously protecting the last few tigers left in the Kerinci Seblat National Park in Sumatra.

The other project I will be trekking for is our Hedgehog Hospital. We rescued and rehabilitated our first hedgehogs back in 1984. Over 30 years later, and we now rescue 700 hedgehogs a year!

I promise I am training hard for this trek and will also be completing various other minor challenges throughout the year in preparation for it too.
