WeSeeHope (formerly HOPEHIV) helps more than 50,000
vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa whose lives have been blighted by
poverty and AIDS. The UK-based charity was founded in 2000 by Phil Wall, who
was inspired to launch it by his own experiences in seeing the impact of AIDS
on young people in Africa. It was Qlik’s first Corporate Charity Partner in
2009.

In 2014, we started paying WeSeeHope a quarterly grant while continuing to raise money via the Vätterundan and other initiatives. We reached a total of nearly $250,000. This year, we also organized the first company funded trip to Africa, looking at the charity’s work in various parts of Tanzania. In 2015, we have launched the VIP Challenge.
The VIP (Village Investors Program) is a micro financing model whereby villagers in East Africa are taught how to start a business by poling their own resources for mutual benefit. We also organized a second trip to Tanzania and another to Malawi. In 2015, we raised over $450,000 for the charity. WeSeeHope Sweden was formed due to the efforts of employees of Qlik Sweden.

We added Medair as second corporate charity in 2013. Medair provides relief around the world to people who have been impacted by natural and man-made disasters. Medair is often the very first on the scene in the case of a natural disaster with life-saving support.

In March, Qlik organized a site visit to the Philippines to look at the work of Medair following the 2013 cyclone. During Qlik’s annual partner event in April 2015, news broke of the Nepal earthquake and together with Qlik partners, we rapidly raised $50,000 for the Medair’s work in that country.

In May, a trip was organized to Madagascar -  the third most disaster-prone country in the world, and a region Medair provided emergency relief to when cyclones struck.  Throughout the year, this charity helps communities gain access to safe drinking water and help establish disaster mitigation activities so that future cyclones cause less damage. In all, Qlik and its staff contributed nearly $500,000 to Medair during the year.  

In parallel with fundraising, Qlik has assisted Medair to more effectively manage its business using Qlik software. In addition to being deployed at its Laussanne HQ, Qlik software has been used in the Middle East to assist with various aspects of the Syrian refugee programs, and
in West Africa to track and ultimately combat the Ebola outbreaks.
