Story
After thirty six years each in the NHS, we have finally retired - and to celebrate we have decided to walk from Leicester (where we were both born) to Melrose in Scotland where we live. The route will take us up the River Soar, through the Peak District, up the Pennine Way, along Hadrian's Wall and over the border just south of Carter Bar. We will be walking through some fabulous countryside - but there's more than a chance of wind and rain. So we need a cause to keep us going on those dreich days, which is where you come in. Help us raise a pound each for each kilometre of the route - 555 km in total!
We're raising money for UN Women - created in 2010 to direct UN activities on gender equality issues, with the aim of removing the social and cultural barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their potential. These barriers exist in public policy, educational opportunity, conscious or unconscious bias, and economic empowerment. UN Women UK support two major UN Trust Funds: The fund for gender equality and the fund to end violence against women. So money you donate will keep us going on the tough bits of our walk, and contribute to some really important UN gender equality programmes.
We'll be posting regular updates about blisters, sore knees and soggy socks - so please be generous for this great cause.
Thanks!
David and Veena
