We run a homeless night shelter in Barnet to house rough sleepers over winter.

Story

‘Walk in their Shoes’ is an event to raise funds and awareness for Together in Barnet - a small charity whose aim is to tackle homelessness in the London Borough of Barnet.  Working with a network of local churches and synagogues, they run an annual night shelter for up to 17 homeless adults every evening during the coldest months of the year.

Cathy and I go to East Barnet Baptist Church, which is one of the host venues each winter.  We both volunteer at the night shelter when it is taking place at our church, and have seen first hand what an invaluable service the scheme provides for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough on the streets.  The guests are just ordinary people like you or I, who have unfortunately hit hard a time in their lives.

The 12.3 mile route from High Barnet to Golders Green goes past nine of the venues.  Most people taking part will be walking the route, but Cathy and I have chosen to run it.
