Why we want to help...
I’ve been a User Rep on the MVP (Maternity Voices Partnership) at the hospital since I had a late miscarriage in 2016. More recently, I returned to the hospital for the birth of our beautiful and healthy baby boy, Jude. Through both experiences, we were so well cared for that I would love to offer something in return.
The MVP is a group of volunteers, hospital staff, heads of departments and outside influencers that actively look at ways to improve the Maternity services at the Whittington through conversations with new mothers and users of the hospital. Comments continue to arise at quarterly meet ups that the spaces need to feel more inviting, warm and welcoming for a birthing Mother and partner.
What we are aiming to achieve...
Our aim is for new parents to feel calm, confident and supported on their journey into parenthood and we think imagery in the spaces around the hospital maternity units goes a long way towards feeling comforted and reassured. From the early pregnancy unit, antenatal department, birth centre and postnatal wards, we hope to fill the empty walls with positive photographic images and portraits.
To date, some wonderful local friends dedicating their time to the project are :
Claire Lawrie, a passionate photographer who loves all aspects of Birth & Motherhood who won Portrait of Britain 2017.

Elena Heatherwick, another incredible local Photographer who recently returned from Liberia & Haiti documenting Midwifes for the UN.

Absolute Print, our local printers who are offering competitive prices for printing and mounting the images.
