Story

Hi, I’m Vikki, 39(did I say that outloud!), mum to Wyatt And Shyla, Biker and Pink haired tattooed loon some would say! I started volunteering for Devon Freewheelers 2 years ago. I happened across them while they were out fundraising in Plymouth. I chatted to one of the riders and being barely 5ft I knew id never ride one of the Blood Bikes as I don’t have the leg length! But I figured I could help in other ways. So I decided to call handle and help fundraise when I could.

The Blood Bikes do soo much, more than I thought they ever did! From moving whole blood and blood samples and supplies etc from hospital to hospital, breast milk from mums who have supplied it to hospital and then from hospital to hospital for premature babies, they also  transport organs for donation which is vital work! And other than a few people who are needed to run the charity, everyone are volunteers! They go out some days, but every evening and weekend to supply a free out of hours service to the NHS in all weathers! Even when it snows and is icy they have a few 4x4 vehicles to use.

They are solely funded on voluntary contributions to be able to keep going, which is why I am going to throw myself out of a plane in a bid to raise money and awareness for them!

They are like a big family and help out anyone they can, never met a bunch of more caring funny crazy people and I glad I met them! For more on what they do go to www.devonfreewheelers.org.uk

I had a Blood Biker from our Bristol area say to me once” I could’t do what you do, call handling” I didn’t understand until he said “when I’m out I only have to look out for me, you you have to look out for everyone when they are out”

Please help me to help them. You never know when you might need them. Thank you so much x x
