We create opportunities for young people to be themselves, make friends and have fun

Story

For nearly 60 years, Fabb Scotland has been working to give disabled children and young people access to sport, leisure and outdoor adventure. We have provided thousands of exciting, fun opportunities that develop confidence, skills and self esteem.

We are a team from Weir Group who love what FABB does and want to fundraise for it.  Some of the team have personal experience with FABB, so we are fundraising in order to help build a new play area.

The team are all set to do one of five challenges over a 6-10 week period, especially created to be inclusive for all levels of fitness.  The challenges are all virtual, and range from virtually walking from our Head Office to the FABB Treehouse in Callander and back (71 miles) to the massive 535 miles of virtually walking and cycling from our head office in Glasgow to lands end.

The five challenges our intrepid fundraisers can pick from are:

(1) Virtually walk from Head Office to the FABB treehouse location and back in Callander (71 Miles) or 149952 steps (avg 3,570 steps a day)

(2) Virtually walk the 150 miles or 316800 steps (which is 7542 steps per day) in recognition of Weirs 150 years

(3) Virtually walk or Cycle from HO to the start of Weir in Liverpool 212 miles 447744 steps (10660 steps per day)

(4) Virtually walk or Cycle from HO the Weir facility in Todmorden and back 400 miles or 844,800 steps 20,114 steps per day)

(5) Virtually walk or Cycle from HO in Glasgow to Lands' End 535 miles or 1,129,920 steps (26902 steps per day)

(6) Swim the distance of the English channel (1352 lengths of the pool)

The challenge runs from the 16th of August to the 30th of September for some and the 21st of October for others in order to reflect the mix of fitness levels.  Rest assured these challenges are stretching for those taking part.

We will provide regular updates on our teams progress on the challenges as we all work hard towards achieving our challenges by the end of September.

The team members are:

Garry Fingland, Janette Vinter,  Steven McDevitt, Kirsteen Scott, Susan Hamill, Keith Bryan, Scott McElney, Kevin NormanMark Smith, George Matheson, Nathalie Brown, Rebecca Sloss,  Gemma Somerville
