Now the autumn has arrived, here at Bristol Dogs and cats Home we’re busy preparing for the colder nights and all the hungry tummies that will be looking to us for love, care and shelter over the Winter months.

To help us through this season the Winter Warmer Appeal aims to raise funds that will not only cover the fundamental heating costs needed to keep toes toasty, but will also pay for ‘Central heating’ in the form of a balanced, nutritious diet, giving our residents that ‘Get up and Glow’!

In previous years the appeal has mainly focused on food that was kindly donated rather than monetary contributions. However, this results in a vast range of different foods donated. While we are sincerely grateful for this generosity, this mixture inevitably leads to upset tummies and unhappy residents.

Too many changes in an animal’s diet can upset their gut, which can then take some time to settle down again. Poor digestion means that they are not able to absorb the nutrients essential for good health. By constantly changing their food, we could also be encouraging them to become fussy eaters.

In addition to this, and particularly during times of austerity, monetary donations towards the appeal would not only enable us to purchase the required food but as we can buy twice as much from our wholesalers for the same amount of money, your donation would go so much further.

With over 200 hungry mouths to feed at any time, our annual food bill would total a staggering £30,000 without this appeal. So however you choose to support us, if you can lend a helping paw over this season, together we can continue to keep toes toasty and tummies full this winter!
