Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

We are planning to walk the Leeds Liverpool canal (127 miles/ 204 km on 21-24 April) to raise money for Martin House Children's Hospice in memory of Evelyn.

We're aiming to cover approx 32 miles per day with overnight stops around Wigan, Blackburn and Skipton. Extra walkers to help us keep up the pace are very welcome to join us at any point along the route.

Please read more below about why Martin House is a charity close to our hearts.

Our Story, by Evelyn's parents:
Evelyn suffered a reduced oxygen supply at birth leading to a brain injury and significant complications to her health. Despite many challenges, she brought us so much happiness and taught us the true meaning of unconditional love, strength and finding hope against the odds. Devastatingly, Evelyn passed away at home aged 7 months, leaving us heartbroken but incredibly proud of her determination and very grateful to have had the chance to make special memories with her as a family.

Martin House were with us every step of the way, providing respite stays, community support, 24 hour access to specialist doctors, home visits which helped to avoid long hospital admissions and ultimately, end of life care and bereavement support. The hospice itself is a comfortable, friendly, home from home with beautiful grounds and fantastic play areas. It has facilities such as games rooms, sensory rooms, art and music rooms, and serves famously huge portions of home cooked meals. Many of the staff became like family to us and it feels unthinkable to imagine how we would have coped without their support.

Being parents to both Evelyn and her big brother Charlie is our greatest privilege. Raising funds and awareness that will help other families like ours is incredibly important to us and reflects the positive impact Evelyn had on everyone who met her.
