Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 12th October 2014, I ran my first ever half marathon and it was an amazing experience. However, I've started training again and I'm taking on the biggest challenge of my life- the Virgin Money London Marathon 2015! Yes, on Sunday 26th April I will be lining up to take on the 26.2- miles challenge.
I am taking this on to support the Donkey Sanctuary, which was set up in 1969 by Dr. Elisabeth Svendsen as she dedicated her life to champion donkeys and, through her amazing devotion, it has grown to the international charity it is today.
Forty-five years on, the Donkey Sanctuary now has sanctuaries, rescues centers and funded projects in over 20 countries across the world. The Donkey Sanctuary is reaching out to those in the greatest need of their help and support- by raising money, I am aiming to make sure this work keeps going.
Training has now started and I have 22 weeks to go until the big day. There are going to be difficult days, but I am motivated by the fact that I am supporting such a great cause.
- £5 in Egypt will buy five donkey fly masks, preventing further suffering and injury from flies in the hot climate.
- £20 pays for one farrier treatment in the UK. Donkeys' hooves should be checked and trimmed every 6-10 weeks to keep their hooves in good condition.
- £100 in Kenya pays for materials and labour to repair three donkey carts, in Ethiopia a full motor service for a mobile clinic, and in India it covers four days fuel for project vehicles!
