Story

A team of eight, consisting of a mixture of Wedlake Bell stalwarts (Simon de Galleani, Martin Arnold, David Earl, Adam Edwards, Matt Pexton and Matt Scott) and star guests Chris Randall and Charlie Brewer (clockwise from top left in photos below), will be cutting short their beauty sleep on 12 June to rise to the challenge of playing 100 holes in a day on one of Hertfordshire's most demanding golf courses - Porters Park Golf Club (portersparkgolfclub.co.uk). To those who may think that this is akin to a jolly, here are some key statistics to allay those suspicions and give you some idea of the severity of the task facing us:

  • 5 rounds of golf plus a further 10 holes in a day on a hilly championship golf course.
  • Over 20 miles walking (no buggies), excluding inevitable deviations and distances between holes.
  • A cumulative total of over 2000 golf shots to be played.
  • Start at 4:30 am and finish at 8 pm- 15 ½ hours with only three 20 minute breaks during the day.

Why are we doing this? A number of the team, along with others in the firm, have had cause to be thankful for the expertise and care provided in life-threatening and life-changing circumstances by the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square and, in the process, have been made acutely aware of the constant need to raise funds to enable the hospital to continue its pioneering work in the research, diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions. The National Brain Appeal is a fantastic charity dedicated to raising vital funds for that purpose and we believe it is well worth putting ourselves through this arduous challenge in order to help make a difference to people's lives.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and for your support.
