Story

When Wendy left us after a long and courageous fight against cancer, Kate Carys and I knew that she was very worried about the deep sadness and loss it would bring down on us all. But, even in her most difficult times Wendy remained positive, always smiled and never truly complained.Throughout her long illness Wendy attended The Fortuneswell Cancer Unit in Dorchester where she received outstanding treatment and care from all the staff. The whole unit ran on an inexhaustible spirit of optimism where nurses and doctors routinely dispensed their treatment and care not only with reassuring professional excellence, but it went hand in hand with kindness, understanding, humour and a delicate human touch that embraced our whole family.

Our loss is painful beyond belief but we keep going knowing that we are always in the slipstream of Wendy's loving touch and, like she showed us, we will approach every day like it's a special gift. So now Kate, Carys and myself are set to swim Lake Padarn in Llanberis North Wales - both ways on Saturday July 14th. ( approximately 4 miles) to help raise money for the Fortuneswell Cancer Unit. Before this we are going to swim Lake Bala in North Wales( approximately 2 miles) as a warm up on Saturday June 2nd. so here's The Fortuneswell trust to explain their goals.

WE NEED YOUR HELP with an exciting project at Dorset County Hospital, in developing the West Dorset Cancer Centre. Radiotherapy services are coming to Dorchester. Funding for the radiotherapy equipment and building has been secured. WE NEED YOUR HELP to develop the Outpatients’ department to be built above the radiotherapy area and to reconfigure the chemotherapy suite. We have already contributed £200,000 towards the £1.76 million required and know that all of you will be keen to ensure the success of this venture by supporting the appeal.

About the charity

The Fortuneswell Cancer Trust aims to improve the Cancer facilities at Dorset County Hospital, to support training, education and research in cancer management, and to facilitate in any way possible the care and welfare of cancer patients in the locality.
