Preventing Podo
Campaign by The University of Sussex (RCN HMRC Registered)
Help us eliminate podo, a neglected tropical disease affecting millions of people worldwide. Although podo causes huge physical and emotional pain, it can be treated from as little as £15 per patient.

Story

Hi guys!

Thanks for donating! I am doing the marathon for the University of Sussex (I am an alumni) to raise money in order to prevent Podo, a form of elephantiasis that causes devastating swelling in the legs and feet of the sufferers. Most people have never heard of this disease, but it affects millions of people around the world.

Sussex is researching and treating Podo, but needs funds to do so. Hopefully we can contribute and hopefully eliminate this disease in our lifetime. This may sound ambitious, but Podo is easily treatable, through giving the sufferer a year's worth of bandages, antiseptic and most importantly - shoes.

Why shoes? Podo is caused through having a genetic susceptibility and walking barefoot in irritant (silicate) soils, which penetrate the skin, and accumulate in the foot's lymph glands, swelling up the feet.

So by donating, your money will go a long way!

Thank you for donating and hopefully I'll finish the marathon (fingers crossed).

Will

Sussex has challenged convention since our foundation in 1961. From modernist architecture on the edge of a rural national park, to our progressive academics and inspiring students, to the very tone of our conversations, our expressions of radicalism and critical thinking. We dare to be different.
