Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving webpage.

In March 2020, my sister and I made the big decision to move our mum, who had been diagnosed with dementia, into the Royal Star and Garter home in Surbiton. Little did we know, a week later the UK would be placed in national lockdown.

During the year that passed without being able to visit, the care and reassurance that mum received and the constant efforts to keep us informed were incredible.

I’ll be running the London Landmarks half marathon to raise some money for the carers, in appreciation of all they have done during this challenging period.

It’s been a long time since I have done anything like this, I completed the NYC marathon in 1986 but I was young and fit back then and a little lighter. I know we all get bombarded with fundraisers but if you can spare even a few pounds it would be much appreciated.

Mum is so happy at S&G, it has been life changing for her and us all as a family. She was recently admitted to hospital and on her return she said she could cry as she was so happy to be back!

Carers across the country deserve a medal! They are selfless and kind, serving others and helping make old people feel valued and safe.

A message from the S&G home.

‘Any support you can give will be put towards a special occasion/treat for staff in the Surbiton Home this Christmas, who have worked with such courage throughout the pandemic to care for residents and one another’
