Hi, please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Wendy Speirs a 54 year old wife, mum, nana, daughter, annoying little sister to my 3 brothers and sister, auntie, daughter -in-law, sister in law, and I hope a good friend to many.Oh, and not forgetting also mother-in-law to two great lads.
Following a routine hysterectomy in November 2012 I was diagnosed with fallopian tube cancer. 2013 was then such a traumatic year. I was very unwell whilst receiving chemotherapy , However the most upsetting thing for me was dealing with losing my hair. I totally lost my confidence and struggled with daily life not wanting to leave the house nor see family and friends. Slowly my hair grew back. Thicker than before, with amazing curls which I hated at first but began to love as it grew longer.
I never recovered to full health, and still suffer from anxiety but life got better. I was able to return to work part time and start to enjoy life again, coming to terms with awful fatigue and learning to live life in a different way.
During early October 2016 I began to feel unwell,
and my stomach was so swollen I was unable to fit into my clothes. Routine 6 monthly Oncology blood tests had reported my CA125 cancer level was above normal range. Following 3 months of various tests and scans on 23rd December I was given the awful news that the cancer had returned. It was absolutely devastating to hear. I was admitted to hospital in February 2017 to have the tumour removed.Having been told I would need chemotherapy again ,the thought of the trauma of treatment and hair loss terrified me.
My darling husband John , daughters Lisa and Maria,
family and friends have been so supportive and I know I have to be brave and strong again for them all, especially my two amazing little granddaughters Darcey(5) and Maisie(2) who I love so very much.
Talking to my two beautiful daughters , they
encouraged me to turn the negatives into positives as best I could .so decided I
would like to donate the length of my hair to The Little Princess children's cancer trust , and then have the rest shaved off to raise money for
the Big C, Norwich,as I could not go through the horror of watching my hair fall out in clumps in my hands as before so I decided to host a pre chemo hair donation party.
Many thanks to my fab hairdresser Helen,
At The Hair Partnership, Eaton Street, Norwich, who cut and shaved my hair ,as she did in 2013, and to Michelle the salon owner for allowing me to invite a few of my wonderful girlies which included two daughters, my mum who will be 90 in June, sister and sister - in-law, along with friends to be there with me.
I hope to raise money for the Big C Norwich as
they have been so kind and supportive. Holding my hand and allowing me to have a good cry, always there with a welcome cup of tea and biscuit when needed and most important just to sit and listen.
My thanks to everyone who have given ongoing
support, kindness and love to both myself and family during my past and present illness.
Special thanks to all my wonderful work colleagues and the Partners at M+A Partners Accountants ,The Close, Norwich.
I miss you all and my desk !!
I have decided that I do not want to wear my wig
this time so have a selection of hats at the ready.
Please help support the Big C Norwich, for all their wonderful work and donate what you can .
Many thanks,
Wendy x
