Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Clitheroe Rugby Club is a lively and growing sporting organisation in the heart of the Ribble Valley, serving the residents of Clitheroe and its surrounding villages with the provision of rugby for all ages and abilities.

As well as providing the sport of rugby, which itself acts as superb platform for individual and team development, as well as enabling a social hub of massive importance during these changing times, the club itself is a critical focus point for the community it serves, being used for a multitude of regular and special events throughout a year.

Each year we raise funds for those in need and over the 44+ years we've been around we've donated tens of thousands of pounds to both national and local charities, including North West Air Ambulance, JDRF, Mind and most recently, East Lancashire Stroke Assistance & Support. Since the start of our last rugby season and throughout the upcoming 2021/22 seasons ending in summer 2022, we're supporting two local charities. One is Lancashire Mind and the other is the Foundation for Ribble Valley Families (FRVF). Both charities help those suffering from mental health issues and as a club, we feel that type of support is needed so much right now.

FRVF aim to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of families in the Ribble Valley, supporting them to enjoy the best possible opportunity to achieve positive outcomes in their lives and responding swiftly and positively to the community's mental health and wellbeing needs. Their aim is to see people as soon as they are referred to us for support. They make contact with the family within 48 hours of referral and depending on the families individual circumstances hope to see them within a week of this initial contact.

Regarding the rugby club and raising money in the past we've usually raised smaller amounts of money from events run through the season but we've recognised that it may be more impactful if we have a single money-raising effort each year and with this line of thinking we've launched the inaugural "President's Challenge". Each season the President of the club will decide upon an event or series of events that will take place purely to raise money for our nominated charities and we can therefore focus all our efforts on that particular event.

Our President, recently taking over that esteemed role from long-standing President and now Honorary President Colin Silcock, is Andrew "Tubber" Thornber. Tubber has been a part of the club for the majority its existence and is kicking off the President's Challenge in fine style with what we might term "a challenge and a half!", 2 laps of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

This will be no mean feat of endurance for Tubber and those joining him in the team but they're committed to completing the walk in less than 24 hours and raise as much as possible for the two deserving charities.
