Story
It's been a personal ambition to one day run a marathon. On 4th November I will run the legendary New York Marathon, my first marathon. I have started a 22 week training schedule and although it's slightly daunting, I am confident and hope to run a strong time.
It was also a brilliant opportunity to raise money for my nominated charity Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. My passion for Battersea started as a 10 year old, I went to the shelter shortly after the passing of my Mum's dog Trampus and spent an afternoon in tears, torn apart by all the amazing dogs that needed rehousing, I wanted to take all the dogs home! We choose Sheba, a 9 month cross-breed and she was my best mate growing up, when i'd had a bad day at school or was in trouble I knew Sheba would be at home thrilled to see me. Sheba lived a long and beautiful life, passing away peacefully at 17 years old. I stayed in touch with Battersea and in January 2017, I rehoused a 2 month Labrador puppy Dotty who has been incredible, a source of non-stop fun and laughter, she has settled in perfectly alongside Roxy my 11 year old Pointer.
The care and love of the Battersea Dogs & Cats home organisation is wondrous. They never turn away a dog or cat in difficulty and are constantly investing in their facilities across England to shelter and rehouse dogs and cats that have been abandoned, rescued, injured or left destitute. The funds I raise from the marathon run will go towards improving the facilities and lives of many dogs and cats.
