Unfortunately, it is rare that we don’t know someone whose life is or has been affected by Breast Cancer, be it family, friends or yourself so I’d be so grateful for a donation to support the Against Breast Cancer charity. 

Breast Cancer is something which has always been close to my heart. Most recently, one of my close friends was diagnosed with breast cancer 9 months ago and I wanted to run in support of her and others in a similar situation. I hope that the money I raise will go to supporting those who have breast cancer and their families in the ways they most need. Running and training for the marathon will be a challenge for me both mentally and physically because I have never run this distance, but I know it will be nothing in comparison to the journey undertaken by those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Everyone’s affected in a different way, and it’s an uphill challenge whatever the outcome.

My friend has been a true inspiration throughout her journey, sharing the ups and downs on social media @myittybittytitty. Speaking about her journey so frankly, with such courage and vulnerability has opened my eyes to the intricacies of the sudden huge change that happens within a few moments of receiving the diagnosis. Not only are you processing the diagnosis for yourself but an entire realm of changes opens up before you - breaking the news to friends and family, telling work, life upheaval, fertility treatment, chemotherapy, dealing with hair loss,  constant exhaustion, frequent hospital visits (expected and unexpected), daily injections and medications, menopausal symptoms, neutropenic sepsis, operations, the anxiety of waiting on results, radiotherapy and trying to keep your life as normal as possible while dealing with all of this…… these are just the tip of the iceberg.
