Is JustGiving a not-for-profit?
JustGiving was launched in early 2001 by co-founders Zarine Kharas and Anne-Marie Huby, who first met in 1999. Zarine, a former City lawyer, had struggled to find information about girls' educational charities to support and Anne-Marie, who was running Médecins Sans Frontières UK at the time, was grappling with the question of how to fundraise online. Together they set out to develop an online marketplace where people could find charities that match their interests, and charities could find new supporters more cost-effectively than through traditional methods.
JustGiving's mission is to ensure no good cause goes unfunded. JustGiving develops world-class technology to grow the world of giving by connecting people with the causes they care about.
Anybody can raise money for a charity or a personal cause on JustGiving. Charities on JustGiving also have their own profile page which people can donate directly to. And hundreds of companies of all sizes also use JustGiving to raise money for good causes.
JustGiving's most popular service is the Fundraising Page. Individuals and teams can create a page in a few minutes, which they can then share with their friends on email and social media.
Charities can also crowdfund with a Campaign Page for a particular cause, project or appeal. Individuals can either donate directly to, or fundraise for, a charity's Campaign to help charities raise funds quickly.
As of 2015, individuals can also launch their own Crowdfunding Page on JustGiving, to raise money for a personal cause, a person in need, clubs, schools, and communities. In less than a year, JustGiving has become one of the UK's largest and fastest-growing crowdfunding platforms.
