Story
Back in March, I started volunteering with T1International. I discovered T1International last year and was immediately drawn to their vision: the belief in a world where everyone with type 1 diabetes – no matter where they live – has everything they need to survive and achieve their dreams. In developing or war-torn countries, patients with Type 1 often face immense hardships when it comes to accessing what they need to survive. In some developing countries, the life expectancy of those diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes is still only around a year, despite the fact that insulin was discovered nearly a century ago.
T1International advocates for access to affordable #insulin4all – in developing countries, as well as in the United States, where patients (myself included) have faced huge price hikes over the past decade. While many patient advocacy groups don't discuss insulin prices, T1International doesn't accept donations from pharmaceutical companies, and hasn't hesitated to be vocal about advocating for lower costs.
I feel lucky to have access to the healthcare that I need. Insulin prices have been a headache for me, but I still have access to it, as well as to doctors and the other medical supplies I need to survive. Others aren't so lucky. Therefore, in honor of my upcoming 30th birthday on July 29, I'm raising money for T1International.
