Over 5 billion people lack access to safe, affordable and timely surgery. That's two thirds of the world's population. How is it that in the 21st century, something so simple is causing more deaths each year than Malaria, TB and HIV combined? Mercy Ships exists because they want to change those odds. 

It all began at the beginning of 2017 when we felt called to leave our house, our jobs and our families after hearing those statistics and being moved to do something about it. Check out the website - it's pretty incredible stuff (https://www.mercyships.org/)

The plan was to serve for a year on the Africa Mercy , the world's largest floating hospital that delivers life saving medical care to some of the poorest parts of the world. Here we are in 2018, heading into our second year serving as the Vehicle Mechanic and Writer. We began our story in Cameroon and are now in Guinea until June 2019. 

The positions are voluntary and we have to pay crew fees of £600 per month to keep the two of us on board. Because of this we have a group of faithful supporters that have been giving us donations either each month or as a one off - and we would love it if you wanted to partner with us in this way (we're assuming that's why you're on our Just Giving page...!).
