Story

Back in early 2015, whilst I was looking for possible spay and neuter clinics abroad to hopefully volunteer at in the summer of 2016, I stumbled across the KAT Centre in Kathmandu. They endeavor to help the stray dogs of Kathmandu by supplying medical treatment and also educating the public on animal welfare (with many aims, including reducing pregnancies in the population, adoption of strays into loving homes and reducing the prevalence of rabies).

Their main goal, first and foremost, is to improve the lives of the street dogs of Nepal. Both the centre itself, and the amazing city of Kathmandu, grabbed my attention and I set about planning the trip of a lifetime.

Then April 2015 came along and the devastating Nepal earthquake hit the country hard. Thousands were killed, injured or lost their homes and much of the country was destroyed, including a large portion of Kathmandu itself. With the country now needing time to recover and rebuild what had been lost, I made the difficult decision to cancel the trip for the time being.

Whilst I would love to get to the KAT Centre myself one day, I felt this Half Marathon would be a great opportunity to shred my knees apart for a good cause and raise some money for a brilliant organisation that is struggling more now than ever before.

So please, if you have a few quid lying around, please consider donating a wee bit so that somewhere, on a completely different continent, a disease-free dog can wake up, get a big breakfast and have a jolly good belly scratch.

Thanks so much for reading, and have a great day!
