Story
Hi!
Thanks for visiting our Just Giving page!
I'm Alex and my Sister, Nikkala and I have planned a 15,000ft skydive in order to support the Dorset County Hospital's 'Power of Giving Appeal'. If we are honest neither of us are fond of the idea of jumping out of a perfectly good plane however its incomparable with the fear and worry that people & their families face every day when being given the sad news of serious and terminal illness. Not everyone is in a position to support or give back so we do this with not only our own events in mind but also on behalf of others that have had to rely upon the care of these amazing people.
On 28th April 2018 our Dad (John) was admitted to DCH and diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. A cure has unfortunately never been a possibility however what has been achieved is nothing short of a miracle in the eyes of Dad and those around him. The initial advice and expectation was to make the most of the coming weeks or months that followed and here we are almost 3 years later! We thank the the staff and particularly Dr Harle on fortuneswell ward at DCH as they have been fantastic with treatment, care and support throughout.
One thing that stands out in particular for us in particular is that Dad's response to the course of treatment that they were able to offer in order to 'comfort and prolong' if you will far exceeded expectations. At that time it was relatively new and little used. This decision alone is responsible for the extra time we have been given and continue to enjoy. This decision may have differed based on the opinion of another team or person and this is why we would like to support these guys in particular initially.
Our skydive is fully funded by ourselves therefor all donations will go directly to DCH Fortuneswell ward in their entirety. We are very grateful for any donations that you are able to make and cant stress enough just how deserving this cause is!!
