Story
Nope I haven't gone mad but I have decided to run my FIRST ever half-marathon in March 2010 to raise money for Amnesty International.
Amnesty work hard to protect human rights around the globe and campaign on behalf of people whose rights are either infringed, curtailed or in many cases non-existent.
I'm running Bath Half marathon to not only raise money (and to prove to myself I can do it!) but also to draw attention to cases such as that of Chief Ebrima B. Manneh, a journalist from the Gambia, who was arrested in July 2006 and has been held incommunicado and without trial ever since, even though a West African regional court has called for his release. I can't even begin to imagine what him and his family must be going through - his supposed ‘crime’ was to try to print a article that criticised the Gambian government! By the time I run in March he'll have spent nearly 4 years in detention with no trial and no idea when he'll be released.
Any donation however large or small will be gratefully received or if you can't manage a donation if you have a spare minute please follow the link and take action for Chief Ebrima by emailing the President of Gambia and asking for his release: http://www.amnesty.org.uk/actions_details.asp?ActionID=535
Thank you so much for your support ~ I'll need it to get across that finishing line!!
lots of love
