We fight childhood liver disease to help every life affected

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2011, my amazing friend Claire gave birth to a daughter, Alexandra.  By the time Allie was 5 days old, it was obvious that she was seriously ill, having been born with biliary artresia, a rare disease that destroys the bile ducts in the liver. At 10 months old, Allie had spent half her life in hospital and doctors warned that unless a liver donor was found, she might not make it to her first birthday. Her dad, John, had hoped that he would be able to be a live donor, but as Allie struggled with infections and lost weight, this was ruled out.  Incredibly, days before her first birthday a liver donor was found, with a small part of an adult liver being transplanted.

Allie is now a lively 4 year old, but it's still hard for children who suffer from rare paediatric liver conditions and their parents to find the support they need.  CLDF serve as a comprehensive information hub for healthcare professionals and the general public; offer a tailored support service for children, young people and young adults with liver disease and their families and are the lead charity supporting medical research into all aspects of childhood liver disease.  Please sponsor me to help them continue their work, to help families like Allie's.
