21 Employees from Bell Truck & Van will embark on the company’s gruelling North to South Cycle Challenge 2011 to raise money for Daisy Chain, a charity supporting parents and carers of children with Autism.

The 21 members of staff participating are hoping to raise over £8,000 for the charity by cycling 160 miles from the Scottish border to the Daisy Chain site based in Stockton.

“As we are a North East family-owned business we feel it’s important to support the local community and this charity cycle has given us a great opportunity to help families affected by Autism and special needs.

“The staff have been really dedicated and have been meeting up and cycling 30 – 40 miles each Sunday morning, which as a result has really benefited the team as the communication between the staff has also grown.

“We’d like to thank all our friends and family for sponsoring us and we hope to gain more sponsorship over the next month to help us hit our target and help this worthy charity out as much as possible.”

The Bell Truck & Van team will cycle from 24 June to 26 June, travelling 60 miles on day one from Scotland to South Northumberland, 50 miles on day two to Birtley and 50 miles on day three finishing at Stockton.

Daisy Chain offer a number of services, advice, support and guidance for parents and carers of children with an autism spectrum condition and are based in Stockton. Justine Johnson, corporate fundraiser for Daisy Chain said: Bell Truck & Van has outlets in Longbenton, Gateshead, Billingham, Spennymoor, and Stockton and deal in new and used trucks and vans manufactured by Mercedes-Benz and recently won two National awards from the top German brand in recognition of their sales achievements.

“We are very grateful that Jeff and his team have chosen to raise funds for the charity the track will be a very important addition to our facilities and help develop the children’s social skills and encourage teamwork whilst having fun, we wish them every success with the bike ride.”
