Story
Our son George was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy aged 1 . Over the past 10 years he has been on a roller coaster ride of treatment, surgery and support. At worst he was having more than 40 seizures a day and sleeping for 20 of the 24 hours! Thankfully due to the great work of physicians, surgeons and ongoing medication, George is now seizure free. As a result his development and understanding is starting to come on and 2017 has seen George start to say his first few words. A milestone you’d normally celebrate of a two year old, but due to George’s epilepsy this is many years later. He continues to need significant support both medically and socially and for that we are very grateful for the many organisations he benefits from.
So why am I sharing this with you? Well, I want to raise £5000 (or more!) for Young Epilepsy, who are a National charity supporting children and young people to have a better future with epilepsy. Their research programme is Internationally renowned and has led to a significant improvement in the understanding and treatment of epilepsy and its impact on children and their families.

On April 7th I will be running the Centurion South Downs Way 50 mile trail race. Whilst I’m a keen runner, I have never run further than 26.2miles and this is double that distance and with nearly 6000ft of off road climbing involved! Just to qualify for this race I had to do a marathon in December and will aim to run over 700 miles in training throughout Jan – 7th April to stand a chance of finishing this in one piece. Though based on my recent marathon, I can expect to lose all of my toe nails!
