Story

I am a Royal Air Force Airframe technician based at 47/70 Squadron at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.  I am currently serving four months away from home in the Falklands Islands working on the Hercules C130K of 1312 Flight, MPA.

One day whilst on the exercise bike in the station gymnasium, thinking of home, I wondered if it would be possible to cycle all the way back to Britain!  This mammoth challenge began on 6 Feb and sees me covering at least 100 miles a day (5 + hours cycling) aiming to cover 8000 miles in 80 days or less with no rest days. I expect to lose 4 stone in weight after cycling for around 350 hours.

You will find me every day on an exercise bike in MPA's gym until 27 April, at which point I shall have a well deserved rest.  So pop in and give me your support or donate through this website.  I am aiming to raise at least £1 per mile (over £8000) for Help For Heroes.  This charity is close to my heart as I have completed two tours in Afghanistan and seen the good work our Forces personnel do and the conditions they endure.  Should any of them be unfortunate enough to sustain an injury in the line of duty, they deserve the support provided for by Help For Heroes.

Thanks for your support!  Oh, and spread the word...

UPDATE 20 Mar - 4524 miles - Last night we raised £716.10 outside the Dolphin NAAFI bar whilst I cycled for 138.2 miles non-stop in 6 hours. A massive thank you to everyone involved !

UPDATE 21 Apr 7526 miles - foot and knee injuries causing problems but aiming for 200mile finale on Friday 24th April outside bottom Naafi finishing around 9- 10 pm. Please come if you can!!

UPDATE 24 APRIL 2009 - 8000 miles completed !!!

I completed my challenge in 78 days including 4 days rest . I cycled for 343 hours and 10 minutes and celebrated with the best tasting beer and Pizza I have ever had!

I am now 3 1/2 stone lighter and a little bit fitter.

I could not have completed this ride without all the generous support that I've received , together we have raised over £4,000 .

Update 2nd June - We have raised £6000 so far with around £250 to add later this week from gift aid. A massive thank you to everyone involved!!!
