Tameside Hospital’s Maternity Unit will be 40 years old next month and will be launching a £50,000 fundraising campaign at a hospital Open Day on 3 December.

 

The ‘Bright Start’ appeal celebrates 40 years since the Maternity Unit opened its doors to mums to be in December 1971. It aims to raise £50,000 for a new midwifery-led suit at the hospital.

 

Maternity manager Lesley Tones said: “We’ve had generations of babies born here at Tameside Hospital and wanted to celebrate this milestone in some way. So we decided to get together to organise an Open Day and launch a fundraising and awareness campaign. Not only will it help give a fresh start to the unit with a new midwifery-led suit, but it will help raise awareness about our excellent maternity care here at Tameside.

 

“We hope everyone will get involved. Staff, friends, families and local people will be able to enjoy the day and see some of the facilities we have on offer at the same time. We will be looking to celebrate in style”

 

The Maternity Unit will be running the Bright Start appeal throughout 2012 with the help of the Tameside Advertiser.
