Story
The 3 Maclennan brothers, under the banner of "The Cabrich Cobras", are attempting to run the Highland Cross on Saturday 17th June in aid of local highland charities.
The race covers 50 miles across all terrain, with the first 20 miles on foot crossing rough ground and ascending some 1200m of hill, followed by a further 30 miles on bike. Starting in Kintail on the west coast, the route cuts directly through the heart of the Highlands before finishing at Beauly, on the edge of the Moray Firth.
If you're often reluctant to donate to larger charities for fear of the "system" swallowing any benefits then the Highland Cross is the perfect alternative. 100% of the money we raise goes towards the local charities that the organisers have selected, and genuinely makes a difference to a lot of peoples lives. All the event costs are also covered by both the participants and a huge team of volunteers to ensure every penny raised goes to those who need it.
The chosen principal charities this year are :
- Shopmobility Highland
- Merkinch Community Centre
- Abbeyfield Ballachulish Society
- Caberfeidh Horizons
- Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team
In the 34 years since starting, The Highland Cross has raised over £4.4 million for local charities like these, with last year seeing the greatest amount sponsored in a single event so far!
Competition amongst the three of us is high, with a tight race expected. Ross has been training hard in fear of his younger brother whipping past him 4 miles in, whilst Mark continues to adopt the minimalist approach out in Abu Dhabi, citing climatic reasons for the lack of training. The Air Ambulance has already been pre notified that it will most likely be required to medevac him from around the 15 mile point...
Please help up get to our target by sponsoring whatever you can afford. If its easier you can text BROS49 + amount to 70070. Every little bit will make a difference!
