Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Please take a look at some information below.

The Charity & The Memory Background:
For those of you who are friends and family, you will know who Judith was, so I don't have to explain.

For those of you who don't know, Judith Taylor was everyone's "second Mam". One of the most generous persons you could ever come across. She'd feed you with breakfast if you'd just had one, she'd give you a lift home if she caught you walking- even if it was back the way she had come from, she'd cook a Daal for 20 people just to make sure they had food before travel and she dedicated a great deal of time to charity. She supported a Sri Lankan orphanage for years and worked one to one with kids who struggled with Autism. I remember Judith's constant kindness from being a young kid in primary school, all the way through until now. This stuff is only the tip of the iceberg, but in short, she was a highly charitable, loving person who supported and dedicated so much of her time, towards so many other people, through different stages of their lives.

Fairly recently Judith had been supporting someone with Autism, and the charity Autism Angels has been a key participant in helping those people with Autism. Autism Angels are a small charity based in the North of England and use Equine Therapy to support individuals and their families. The charity are pretty small, but are also a lifeline for those in this area. Judith would have loved to celebrate this charity further, and I hope that raising some money for these guys is a good way to celebrate her memory, as Judith is unfortunately no longer with us. We shall all miss you, but your legacy & kindness shall carry on.

The Event Background:
As many of you will know, I've been training for this race for a long time - 7 years in fact!

In 2015 I decided to go for UTMB after completing some Ironman's. It took a year or so to build up to 100 mile runs, and another couple of years finishing 100 mile races to qualify for an entry place. Entry is granted by lottery, where I was unlucky 3 times in a row (the odds are against that!), then Covid postponed the race for 2 further times. Now here we are in 2022.

Historically the reason for wanting to do this race has been personal. Its regarded as one of the hardest races in the world, and the finisher rate is incredibly low- which is why I have always wanted to do it. However, due to that which has been described above, I would now really like to raise some good money for Autism Angels, in memory of Judith.

The Race Detail:
The race is composed of running 170Km (106miles) (which could be done in around a day normally), but is fully trail and has over 10,000 meters of climbing (that's about 33,000ft), so it's going to take a bit longer! On my journey I'll pass through France, Italy and Switzerland, and climb the equivalent of sea level to the top of Everest + another Ben Nevis and a bit on top of that.

I have done numerous 100mile races, and some slightly over. But this will be the hardest challenge I have done so far. Pain, tears, sleep deprivation & hallucinations will no doubt make an appearance.

Please join me in raising some money in memory of Judith. I know she'd be incredibly proud of this legacy we can continue for her, in her memory.
