MATCH-FUNDING OFFER COMPLETE. UWCGB FUNDING GAP FOR 2020 CLOSED. THANK YOU ALL!

Novermber 8, 2020: Thanks to a generous offer by a group of Alumni and parents of students recently at UWCs, the support of our students and the colleges themeselves, we have been able to close the funding gap for ALL British students joining UWC this year. The offer to match-fund £3,000 in donations has been filled.

NOW WE ARE TURNING OUR THOUGHTS TO PLANS FOR 2021 AND BEYOND, SO PLEASE WATCH THIS SPACE. WE WILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

This year UWC GB is sending more than 30 students to United World Colleges around the world. And the great news is that ALL of them now have their places funded. Thanks to their own efforts, and those of their fellow students, particularly Rosie and Daniel (see below), and the whole UWCGB team, Maya (now at UWC Mostar - photo above) and Izzy (now at UWC Costa Rica - photo below) have been able to take up their places. So, a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all who have supported this initiative!!!

We are, of course, still in the midst of the COVID pandemic and here at UWC Great Britain we want to support all of our 2020 nominated students to make sure they can get the most out of UWC. In some cases we have had to transfer students between colleges and this has incurred additional costs, so any extra funds will be used to support the needs of current students and held over to support oiur plans for 2021 and beyond.

Its a vital part of our mission that young people from all backgrounds are able to start their life-changing journey at UWCs. We know we have not heard the last of the pandemic. Family circumstances will change and both current and future students will need help which may not have been anticipated when they applied. So, we will keep on fund-raising to try and put ourselves in a position where we can support as many students and future applicants to attend UWCs on a needs-independent basis.

As we move to the next stage of our fund-raising, wed like to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to two special people who started their UWC journeys in September. Rosie and Daniel helped raise almost half of our total this year. They kick-started this campaign and made it a success.

Rosie Pegna (below right) is now at UWC Atlantic and swam the equivalent distance of the Channel crossing between the UK and France in her local swimming pool and the sea - in fact wherever and whwenever she was able to get back in the water after the COVID pool closures.

Daniel Strangward (above left) cycled 2,650 kilometers around his native Herefordshire, the equivalent of Atlantic College to UWC Mostar (his UWC), to help raise scholarship funds for Maya and Izzy too.
